The Ipoh
Orchid Society was formed in 1996 with the aim of promoting orchid growing as
a hobby and to promote eco-tourism. Besides organizing monthly shows, the
society has organized several national shows and also the annually held Ipoh International Orchid Festival which
started in 2001. Ipoh is the home of some of
Malaysia's most respected orchid growers, whom have won a number of prizes at
the International Shows.
The 2nd Ipoh
International Orchid Festival set a record as the Largest Orchid Competition
in the Malaysian Book of Records. In 2003, this record was broken and a new
record was set with a record number of 2003 exhibits.
